I... i don't know how to feel, to be honest. I've fallen in love with a fictional character.. Listen to myself! All day everyday i'm thinking about him. He's insane, and loves to look death in the face. I still love him. Even if he's crazy. I love him, but... the sad and harsh reality is: he doesn't exist... "but in my world he does, so what does it matter?"
NeWsFlAsH: my world doesn't exist either, its just my pathetic imagination trying to protect me from reality, so i'm not hurt.

Okay, to be fair, the fictional character I have an irrational crush on is a disco dancer with a blue wig, but we're kinda in the same boat about our fictional crushes.

Yes, it is to protect you from your own reality. For example, the more polished anime becomes the less likable and relatable it becomes. The reason you love your characters so much is because they lack the human characteristics you dislike about yourself and other people. You either further into delusions or accept that people are flawed.

Real relationships whether they be of a romantic nature or not, they required effort and work. They have their highs and lows. It is the uncertainty, the unpredictability, and the risk of getting hurt that makes us grow if we accept to grow from it.

Also, I'm taking it that you "aren't from the mainstream crowd" and that somehow amps "your personality". In reality, what makes you any different than thousands of girls who recycle and like photoshopped images of lifestyle Youtubers and you; who is fixated on flawless and fictional characters?

The truth is that our generation is obsessed with perfection. My *personal* and *professional* opinion is that you should tone it down a bit on your chi-chi lifestyle and take a practical route to this: figure out what's wrong with your reality.
